You’re smart if you...

are informed
on what you are eating.

How it works?

Become informed regarding the food you are consuming. Is it in season, locally available, and produced responsibly? By doing so, consumers can benefit from eating food that is healthier and rich in flavor, while avoiding food that is refrigerated for long periods of time.

It is also a more economical and environmentally friendly practice as it requires less transportation and conservation. Reducing the consumption of natural resources on an individual and community scale means reducing our ecological footprint.

Your city is smart if...

promotes the agro-food
culture of the region.

How it works?

Local organizations often work to increase the awareness of citizens and private companies regarding the value of the natural and cultural characteristics of their region. For example, one approach is to showcase the key agricultural products in the area.

Promoting agri-food culture is useful to develop local agricultural knowledge (e.g. production methods) as well as the history of the region.

In 2010 the UK Government published a national food strategy identifying the key challenges facing their agrifood system.

One aim of the project is to educate consumers about food; how and where it is produced, and how to eat a healthy diet. It also works to support companies who produce sustainable and healthy food, while reducing, reusing, and reprocessing their waste.
